This is a sample of the simulation that I made as part of the action research project. The description will be on how I decided on what resources to use and introduce as an option for people who struggle with decision making. If you're feeling stuck with your decision-making skills, you can begin by taking a look at this sample and seeing if it provides any insight for you. Or, you can just read through all of it and get a general idea of how the process worked. It's up to you! With this, we hope that we can help those who are struggling with decision-making on their own path towards better choices based on their values or ideals (or lack thereof). These are the resources that I used to make the decision-making simulation. There are other decision-making simulations that you can find online, but this is the one that I made for my research project at HPS. Though other simulations use different methods, they all share similar features or foundations, so it's still a good idea to look over other ones if you haven't already. As mentioned in section 1, there are two types of simulation models used in acting research: phenomenological simulation and decision-making simulation. Phenomenological Simulation is an immersive experience where participants enter into a simulator and simulate something such as an emotion or sensation such as fear or anger. Decision-making simulations are another simulation that uses immersive technology that enables users to get into the role of decision maker and make decisions or simulate different outcomes. The two types of simulations also follow different purposes. With phenomenological simulation, one's aim is to understand what someone feels like when they experience certain emotions, which can help increase empathy for others. Decision-making simulations can be used in various educational settings to help teach students about the process of making conscious decisions based on values or ideals (or lack thereof). This is an important resource because it allows users to get into the role of someone who needs aid in making a decision. For this, I made a decision-making simulator where the user is in charge of one of two characters making a decision. Each character has a different goal and action that they need to take in order to reach their goal. The decisions that the user makes will determine whether or not they reach their goal, and which path they choose to take will determine how much time it takes them. As the user progresses through this simulation, he/she can see exactly how his/her decisions affect the outcome of this simulation. This is another important resource because it allows users to get into the role of someone who needs aid in making a decision. This resource is similar to the first because it allows users to get into someone's shoes and make decisions as they would. The main difference between the two resources is that this one simulates a field experience where users simulate their first day on the job as a nurse. This simulation uses graphics and real-life images taken from actual nursing videos, allowing users to really imagine themselves as nurses performing various tasks such as administering medications or assisting doctors with surgeries. I used this resource to simulate how patients feel when they're in pain and aren't receiving adequate care from their health care provider. This type of simulation helps the user think about what compassion means in their life, which will help them feel more empathy for others who are experiencing pain.
